Day 3: Tuesday, June 17, 2025
Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch We start the day in Telliskivi Creative City, a collection of former factory and railway buildings that is a present-day Mecca of artisan and designer shops and lovely cafés, where local food is honored and being different is a standard. The best design & handicraft boutiques in the city are located here, offering excellent off-the-beaten-path shops where everything is unique and one-of-a-kind! We’ll continue to the Noblessner neighborhood, named after its founders: businessmen Emanuel Nobel (nephew of Alfred Nobel) and Arthur Lesner. The Noblessner Seafront Quarter dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. Formerly famous for building submarines for the Russian Empire, it has now turned into a waterfront quarter that is open to the sea. |
Not far from Palmse lies the Sagadi manor estate, which is now also home to the national forestry museum. You will enjoy a short tour in the Sagadi manor’s park. From here, a narrow winding road leads through a spruce and pine forest to the small coastal village of Altja, which is a typical coastal village that over a century ago supported small family farms and fishing. You can still see the original fishing huts used to store and maintain fishing nets and small boats.
Our next stop is the coastal village of Käsmu where many large sailing and steam ships were built and the British pound was once legal tender. Our lunch will be served in Käsmu maritime museum, where you can enjoy a traditional Estonian meal. On our way back to Tallinn we will take time for a photo stop to capture the splendor of Jägala waterfall, Estonia’s highest falls. |
OPTIONAL TOUR - Additional Fee Applies
PALDISKI COUNTRYSIDE DRIVE (4 hours) Enjoy spectacular views from atop coastal cliffs and explore the magic of Estonia’s second largest waterfall. See historical manor estates and the medieval monastery ruins at Padise. The road to Paldiski, a small coastal town with a long and colorful history, offers visitors a few unexpected surprises along the way. The landscape along this stretch of coastline is stark and yet hauntingly beautiful. See the stunning limestone cliffs at Türisalu and Pakri. Türisalu klint is one of the most impressive natural sites on the Northern Estonian limestone coast -- a 31-meter-high rock platform with stunning sea views and easy access, it offers a breathtaking panorama of the sea and Vääna-Jõesuu beach below. Then on to the beautiful Keila-Joa Park, home to the second largest waterfall in Estonia. In times past, it provided water power for the Keila-Joa Manor next door. The remnants of a once splendid Neo-Gothic manor house still stand as witness to an era when Baltic Germans ruled as land barons. Today, this waterfall provides hydroelectric power (green energy!) to about 1,000 homes. |
